It's happening everywhere, and students on every college and
university campus are feeling the effects. It's the feeling of stress
around finals. Isn't that a scary word: finals!
Why do college students become so stressed around finals at the end of
the semester? Surveying the campus of Penn State McKeesport was
enlightening because of some of the statements students made about stress
relievers during finals.
Usually, when people become stressed, they tend to take their
frustrations and worries out on other people. Well, the same may apply for
students, especially students who may
find themselves failing in a class. Jocelyn Brockington (sophomore
liberal arts) said, "Relieving stress is very important, especially around
finals. Students should try to express how they feel to their peers to try
and alleviate some stress."
George Proctor (freshman-computer engineering) said, "I don't stress,
but it gets to me. I don't take it out on people."
Many college students use one special technique before tests, and this
technique is called "cramming." Cramming simply means studying the night
before the test or a couple hours before the test. Morgan Witherspoon
(sophomore-division of undergraduate studies) said, "I study during the
semester, but I go over everything the night before."
Some students feel that stressing over finals may be a normal feeling.
But, some students say that stress isn't normal; as a matter of fact,
stress may cause the student to do worse on the final. Katrina Thompson
(sophomore-biology) said, "1 don't stress, because if you stress you tend
to do bad. I don't let myself get stressed. It's better to be relaxed and
calm before taking any test."
So students, don't get stressed, and take your time.
