The Campus Ministry program at
Penn State McKeesport exists to add spiritual flavor and culture to the
McKeesport campus. Many students on campus seem to take their spirituality
seriously; however, there is an overwhelming amount of students who say
they neither have the time nor do they put the effort into their
spirituality.
The director of the Campus Ministry program, Mr. David Shellenbarger, has
many things planned for this year. He stated, "A lot of students on campus
are unaware of the activities that campus ministry sponsors." Some
activities that will be sponsored are the Jubilee Conference and a spring
retreat for campus students. Recently, there was a concert featuring the
Penn State McKeesport Gospel Choir and Mime Group as well as ensembles
from other organizations and schools.
Mr. Shellenbarger also mentioned that there is a men's Bible study
group on campus that meets on Thursdays. The group consists of mostly
commuter students; however, residents are also welcomed.
There is also a Bible study group that is lead in the Residence
Hall by resident assistant Tenika Anderson (sophomore information sciences
and technology). This Bible study group usually meets on Tuesdays and
Thursdays. Ms. Anderson is not the official leader of the Bible study
group and is actually looking for some other Christians to help her teach.
She stated, "The purpose of this Bible study is to help Christian students
learn some of the basic Biblical principles and help them get used to
living the lifestyle they have chosen when accepting Jesus the Christ as
their personal Lord and Savior.'' Rasheeda Campbell (junior marketing),
who is the leader of the Mime Group on campus, says, "The Mime Group gives
students on a campus a way to express their choice of Christianity and
their love for the Lord they have chosen." She agrees with Mr.
Shellenbarger when he says that more students need to become involved.
