A lot of students pass through Penn State McKeesport, but few
leave a lasting impression life Ms. Danielle Wu. Ms. Wu is a 3rd year
student majoring in Mechanical Engineering and is a prominent member of
the Student Government Association. Her commitment to her work and future
has been recognized nationally by receiving a $1,000.00 scholarship for
scholastic leadership and achievement by Texaco. She has become a strong
voice for the students at our campus, but she doesn’t really look at
herself as a leader. “I’m like a tool for the students, she said. “I’m a
way for us to be heard.”
Ms. Wu’s commitment to her major comes from
tradition. “It’s in my blood, she said. My whole family is in
Engineering. My father and brothers have degrees in forms of
Engineering.” When asked what influenced her decision to attend Penn
State McKeesport instead of University Park she commented that it was a
matter of size and not wanting to go to a big campus to start. “I was
really turned off by the size. I was told how nice an area Pittsburgh is
and I wanted to be in the Penn State system. My stepfather told how good
Penn State’s Engineering program was, so I decided to start here.”
Danielle is a very young lady, but is still like
any other person her age. She enjoys a versatile mix of music and likes
to watch the E! Television station. “I enjoy R&B, Hip-Hop, and other
alternative music. I love to watch ER.”
Ms. Wu doesn’t let any handicap stand in her
way. “I worked for one month in Houston, Texas at Stress Engineering
Service INC. They didn’t expect much out of me because I was young and a
female. I worked everyday 8-5. They were very impressed. I walked away
with tons of recommendation letters.”
Danielle is a very inspirational person. She’s
accomplished a lop and hasn’t even begun. “I’ve still got a long way to
go. I know I’m going to succeed.” It was a real privilege interviewing
this amazing young lady.
