The Great Disaster                                                                                      By Vince Vicious       4/20/01

The big Semi-formal has come and gone.  I asked a few people how it was.  I got the same answer every time.  “I didn’t go”, “there weren’t that many people there,” or “You’ve got to be kidding.”  That’s saying something.  Maybe it’s saying that no one cares about the thing!
I used to like the Semi-formal.  Having to waste my money on a suit and walk in with my girlfriend to show the rest of my fellow classmates how nice my girlfriend and I looked in our formal wear.  But that was 11th grade and I’ve grown since then.  That’s the problem, in my opinion.  Events like the Semi-formal meant something in High school when you had mommy and daddy helping you rent your Tuxedo and making sure you had a ride.  Now, times have changed.
Students have no time to waste money on something so unimportant and of so little interest.  Students that have actually attended the dance of a flop it was.  From there brave soul’s accounts I have come to a conclusion.  I’d rather watch old episodes of Dawson’s Creek than Walk the Green Mile to go to this disaster.
Last year’s Semi-formal was canceled due to lack of interest.  You’d think someone would’ve taken a hint for this year’s formal.  No one cares!!!  But, they still move on with this sad attempt to get students to shell out money.  A little advice, give it up and try something different.  I don’t care what, just something.  The Semi-formal isn’t a dance.  It’s very bad comedy.
