If
you are a person who is theatrically inclined this organization might be
right for you. Megan Nelson and Walter DeShields started this club last
fall semester. This club is for anybody who has a love for the theater
and is interested in the performing arts. Anyone who loves to act, sing
or dance will fit in just fine. There really is no set limit to the number
of students who can join so any and all people are welcome. The president
of the club is John Schuessler. According to John, “ We have a lot of
fun”; this pertains to the members of the club. The other official
positions held by the members of the club are as follows: Matt Demes,
Vice- President, Melanie Wrobleski, Secretary, Beth Eastwood,
Treasurer-Choreographer. Beth also has an assistant choreographer to help
her coordinate dance moves.
Some people may be
wondering where funding for this club comes from. The members do have a
couple of fundraisers planned for this year however; they really don’t
know what kind of fundraiser they will be having. They definitely have a
few in the works and they are still looking for more ideas.
Amplified has quite a busy
year. The members are planning a couple of acting sketches, solos, and
group songs. John also had some input as to what songs a person who is
auditioning could use. “ If someone wants to use their own music during
an audition, that would be fine”, this is also according to John. Last
year they had a show that paid tribute to Broadway. They also had a
variety show, which featured musical selections from Miss Saigon, Cats,
and Les Miserables. This year is no different than last. There is a
variety show, which is being planned for the fall. Amplified prepares for
such shows all semester. There actually are set dates for the variety
show. The first performance will be held November 29, 2001 at 7:30 p.m.
The second performance will be held December 1, 2001 at 2:30 p.m. The
exact location of these performances has not yet been determined. John did
say that more than likely they would be held in the Frable Conference
Center.
One of the other plans for
this year is to perform a play. Amplified already has an idea of which
play to present. There is a modern day Cinderella play in the works right
now. The story and plot line will be the same this just has a present day
twist. The songs that will be used will be top 40 songs and they will be
adapted to best fit the script.
Amplified holds meetings
every Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Many of the meetings are held in
the Frable Conference Center. The first thirty minutes of the meeting is
allotted to discuss business matters. The rest of the time is left to
rehearse songs, decide on new songs, and learn new dance moves. If anyone
wants more information regarding Amplified, they can contact John by
