Unification Of Our Nation                                                  By Sean Dzurik

In the weeks since the assault on the US., Americans have become aware of a growing threat of terrorism.  As actions are taken to ensure that these events will not be repeated, Americans have chosen to show that they are not afraid.  They have actually become a closer and stronger group of people in the face of adversity.

Americans have offered any help they can give.  Blood drives have been scheduled across the country, and local blood banks have reported lines of people waiting to get inside and donate.  Roadside donation centers have been set up accepting any money or nonperishable goods that people choose to give.

The rescue workers continue to work night and day, risking their own lives and health, in an attempt to save more survivors.  Many have joined the cause, offering any skills they have that may be of any value.

Hollywood has taken an active role in the crisis as well.  Jim Carey recently donated a sum of one million dollars to the families of the victims.  Jay Leno plans to auction off his brand new Harley Davidson, and is having all of his guests autograph the bike.  A special was broadcast over all television networks on September 21, where many celebrities came together to tell stories of the bravery of others and to sing songs of peace.

The WWF suspended it’s regular programming on the Thursday following the bombing, in order to broadcast a tribute to those who had lost their lives in the disaster.  Wrestlers got an opportunity to express their condolences with the families of the victims, and to share their feelings with the public.

American flags have been sold out in almost every store dealing in them.  They can be seen everywhere from in the windows of peoples homes to on the antennas of their cars.  Some people have taken to stealing them from memorials and grave sites.

Though the attacks were meant to harm the country, it has actually brought us closer together than we have been in many years.  Words like “please” and “thank you”, which were seldom heard from many people, have once again become part of our daily speech.

Although the events of September 11 were a tragedy, they seem to have brought out the best in us.  Other than the increase in hate crimes towards those of Muslim descent, Americans have come together and have rediscovered a love and respect for their fellow man.
