Planning a Career in Buisness?                                                                      By Anna Silvio     10/22/01

A new four-year baccalaureate degree in business called Bachelor of Science and Business (BSB) is now offered at Penn State McKeesport. It is suited for students who want to learn how to adjust to the always changing workplace as business professionals.

The BSB degree is the second four-year program offered at Penn State McKeesport. The first was Information Sciences and Technology (IST), which is now the second largest Penn State IST program, after University Park. A third four-year degree option may be offered in the near future on campus, but the field has yet to be determined.

When establishing the BSB degree, advice came from business leaders throughout Pennsylvania who said they needed employees who understand business technology, work well in groups, and are ready for change and responsibility. Others said they were looking for people with training in high-tech fields. The BSB degree is designed to help students meet these demands with classroom instruction, practical experience, active and collaborative learning, internships, and technologically enhanced courses while they complete their education in the core business disciplines.

Two courses in the BSB program, Marketing and Management and Individualized Business, will help students prepare for the demands of the business world as employees in large corporations or as entrepreneurs.

Dr. Margaret Signorella, Director of Academic Affairs, hopes to have new events, activities and clubs that relate to this course.

Currently there are approximately 25 students pursuing a BSB degree at Penn State McKeesport. For more information, contact your advisor.
